If the government are so sure that they want a seven day service at the hospitals it becomes logical that the District Nurse service needs to be just the same, it seems that six and a half days a week they are a full team but on Sunday one nurse from each team covers the whole of the teams area, they are running all over the place not only doing their list but have to pick up any one in their area might ring for assistance, we are told to keep away from A&E and go to a drop in service, but that service in my area only deals with minor injuries or will send you to your GP, A&E or ring 111, it is very difficult to fully understand just where you should go when out of hours, when asked what is going on I am told they are overwhelmed and lack recourses to provide the service needed, that blows away the government statement that they are upping the NHS budget, if in fact they are where is the money going???, a large amount is wasted providing target results, targets for everything why??, patients just want a quality service from quality staff, if these people are having to waste time with idiotic paperwork it is not surprising all the delays experienced when visiting a hospital, yes there should be achievable targets but only if they do not affect patient care, and of course targets need vast amounts of ancillary staff at a cost, so I just hope the government take notice before things get out of hand!!!!!!!!!.
